SCHOOL VISION (3-Year Strategies) By June 2016, McKay Elementary School will be a high-functioning Professional Learning Community that consists of well-developed professional learning teams. These teams will collaborate, use reflective teaching practices, and communicate effectively to ensure academic excellence for all students. SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT All students attending McKay Elementary School will advance their academic and social skills to achieve grade level or above benchmarks. All students will be prepared to reach the proficient level – or higher - on state and locally developed assessments. Students will enter the next grade equipped with the skills, capabilities, and attitudes needed to maintain high achievement in core academic areas and participate in their school community as productive learners and citizens. OVERARCHING OUR THEMATIC GOAL Our goal is the development of a high functioning Professional Learning Community by strengthening collaboration, reflective teaching, and communication in order to ensure higher levels of learning for all students MAA will continue to strengthen and deepen our working relationships with our University Partners, Community Partners, and Professional Learning Communities (PLC’s). Together as stakeholders, we will broaden our content and instructional base to ensure high expectations for our student learning community. THEORY OF ACTION If McKay Elementary School enhances our PLC and creates high-functioning teams that work together to strengthen the inclusion program, Tier I instruction, and the implementation of RTI, then the McKay Arts Academy will have instructional systems in place that support and raise student achievement. MAA has embraced the challenges of Innovation and has created a common vision and mission for our students 1 through 5. Our work continues to focus on and strengthen our four Innovation pathways: Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Professional Development. Through collegial teamwork, a common language, and shared instructional practices we will ensure equity and access to improve academic performance for all students. STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES Goal 1: Improve Literacy and Mathematics achievement for all students by strengthening CORE classroom instruction (Tier I) Goal 2: Increase Student and Family Involvement. Goal 3: Further develop and support efforts to establish a Common Culture and Climate for Learning. Goal 4: Improve Inclusion Program and clarify the continuum of RTI intervention services to better align students with services Goal 5: Implement a school-wide arts-integrated curriculum initiative, maximizing adoption of the Common Core to increase success in writing, comprehension, vocabulary development, and speaking across the content areas.
