Welcome to William E. Norris School!
William E. Norris School, in Southampton, MA, serves children from pre-K to grade 6. Current enrollment is approximately 480 students with a staff of about 90 professional and support personnel. The school, together with Westhampton and Williamsburg, is one of three members of School Supervisory Union 66. Following completion of 6th grade, students attend Hampshire Regional High School in Westhampton.
Hampshire Regional High School is a six-year comprehensive regional school (Grades 7 – 12) serving the towns of Chesterfield, Goshen, Southampton, Westhampton, and Williamsburg. The Hampshire Regional District was formed by the initial member towns in 1962. The original high school building was completed in 1971 with a recent addition that significantly expanded and updated school facilities. Accredited by New England Association of Schools and Colleges its enrollment in 2012 – 2013 (Grades 9 – 12) was 521 with a senior class (Class of 2013) of 118.
Hampshire Regional High School was recently named to the national AP Honor Roll by the College Board for expanding access to Advanced Placement courses. We are the only school in Hampshire County named to this year’s national AP District Honor Roll. The goal to meet the needs of all students is demonstrated by the presence of a cooperative program between the prestigious Clarke School for the Deaf in Northampton and HRHS which integrates students with moderate to severe hearing loss into all aspects of school life and learning.
The philosophy of the William E. Norris School is based on the underlying belief that all children can succeed in school when they are presented with high expectations and treated with respect and dignity. We believe that all children are unique and have special strengths and special needs. Our role is to help the children reach the highest level of development in all areas: intellectual, physical, social and emotional, in a safe, non-competitive and developmentally appropriate environment. Our hope is that all of our children become enthusiastic life-long learners.
W. E. Norris School is the community anchor of Southampton. The school staff is committed to the school and its numerous traditions including the back-to-school ice cream social, Veteran’s Day celebration, preschool pie sharing, a vibrant winter concert, and a ceremonious recognition of 6th grade transitions. The school possesses significant technological resources and work on curriculum, instruction and assessment through professional development and Professional Learning Communities connect staff into a strong educational family.
Southampton is located in the Connecticut River Valley of Western Massachusetts, 100 miles west of Boston and 27 miles northwest of Springfield. It is a small middle income community located in Hampshire County, home of Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, and the University of Massachusetts.
